Charge Across America, first-ever cross country electric vehicle event, will send 5 teams to race from NYC to LA
On October 31, 2021, in the first-ever event of its kind, five teams of drivers — of various backgrounds and skill levels — will launch from New York City and race to Los Angeles, using only electric vehicles.
The event, “Charge Across America” (CAA), which will take place over 10 days, aims to demystify electric vehicles and demonstrate the cars’ impressive capabilities. At each location, the event will highlight the technology advancements and initiatives ushering in the EV revolution.
Drivers will brave the expected elements that come with a long-distance driving race — route navigation, fatigue, inclement weather, tough terrain, and others. They’ll also overcome the unique challenges that come with driving electric vehicles, such as identifying charging stations along the way and strategizing how much mileage they can clock in before recharging.
“Charge Across America will show the US, and the world, just how ready we are as a society to embrace the EV revolution,” said Kristin Slanina, Managing Director of Charge Across America.
The drivers will kick off in Brooklyn, NY from Revel’s Superhub. The company, which is hosting the event’s launch, is leading cities to a zero-carbon future by integrating technology, operations, and infrastructure across energy and mobility sectors.
“Getting people out of gas-guzzling cars and into EVs is one of the most important parts of our country’s progress towards a zero-carbon future,” said Paul Suhey, Revel Co-Founder and Head of Rideshare & EV Infrastructure.
CAA will host several exclusive events at key stops: Ypsilanti, Michigan, Las Vegas, Nevada and Los Angeles, California.
TangentVector, an award-winning production company, will film the entirety of Charge Across America and produce a documentary about the groundbreaking event.
The first team to reach Los Angeles will be named the winner. But all participants, sponsors, and viewers alike will benefit from witnessing firsthand how viable, and exhilarating electrical vehicles are today and how we can, together, pave the way to zero emissions.
“There’s so much great progress being made in electric vehicles but there are still key opportunities to address. As a society, I have no doubt that we will absolutely rise to the occasion,” said Slanina. “Charge Across America will bring the ecosystem together, inform the public of the possibilities and accelerate development. Together, we create the future of how we move.”
CAA will be sponsored by CMT, Velodyne and Thirdware. ParkMyFleet, a mobility company, will serve as a platinum sponsor throughout the event.
